The fund exists to protect our lake and its watershed and it does this by supporting or investing in a variety of projects that are dedicated to the fund’s objectives.
There are a total of 7 objectives of the fund outlined in the incorporation document (add link here). In summary, “The spirit of the Fund is built on inclusion, participation, education, awareness, and environmental stewardship.
The Fund was not created for the community. It was created for the Lake and belongs to the Lake.
The elected board members support the fund’s objectives while ensuring the fund’s capital remains unaffected to the best of their ability. The fund’s capital is invested in a prudent manner to ensure its maintenance and growth. “Our role is to ensure it reaches its full potential as a powerful tool to protect and sustain it into the future. “
The community plays a vital role in how the fund is used as it is the membership that is tasked with guiding this use. The board of directors executes the vision of the community. That means that we must all participate so that there is a clear direction to follow.
Our participation must take us individually and as a community beyond our personal self-interests and desires and focus on the future of the lake.
The most powerful aspect of the Fund is simply its presence as a message to all who would exploit the lake that, we as a community can respond. If we are to maintain that capability to respond, the Fund must remain healthy going into the future and must grow to meet the threats that are already materializing. That takes strong leadership from the Board of Directors and the commitment and participation of the entire community.
